Since 2004 the government has set annual targets for the reduction of Not in Education Employment or Training (N.E.E.T) among 16 and 17 years olds. In 2008 the government published a document outlining various steps to be taken by local authorities and their partners to reduce N.E.E.T. The aim is to help young people stay in post-16 learning (including jobs with training), firstly in providing guidance and support for young people, and secondly, in providing fast and effective support back into learning.
Lancashire Young People's Service was formed in April 2007 to deliver an integrated youth support service, providing universal and targeted services to meet the needs of young people aged 11 to 24, in line with the Every Child Matters agenda.
